McDonald's (MCD) supplier Taylor Farms has recalled yellow onions from its Colorado facility following an E. coli outbreak at the burger chain, multiple media outlets reported late Wednesday, citing a company statement.

Taylor Farms reportedly said no traces of E. coli have been found in the onions yet, and that the recall was issued as a precaution during a multistate health investigation.

"We continue to work closely with FDA and CDC during this ongoing investigation," Bloomberg quoted Taylor Farms as saying.

McDonald's has identified raw slivered onions used in its Quarter Pounders as a potential contamination source but hasn't ruled out beef, Bloomberg said. The burger chain has removed the burger from 20% of its US locations as the investigation continues, it added. Major distributors like US Foods (USFD) and Sysco (SYY) have also reportedly alerted customers about the recall, the report said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration are still investigating the outbreak, which has resulted in dozens of illnesses, one death, and 10 hospitalizations across 10 states, according to Bloomberg.

McDonald's and Taylor Farms did not immediately respond to MT Newswres' requests for comment.
