TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto recently announced an increase in teacher salaries in 2025. The salaries of civil servant teachers are slated to double their current base salary.

Deni Surjantoro, Head of the Communication and Information Services Bureau at the Finance Ministry, clarified that this increase will manifest as a professional allowance, which will be disbursed to both civil servant and non-civil servant teachers every month.

“However, the disbursement will occur every 3 months,” he told Tempo on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

According to him, this disbursement mechanism aligns with the Education Minister’s Regulation number 45 of 2023. He emphasized that civil servant teachers will receive a professional allowance equivalent to their current base salary, irrespective of their rank.

This benefit will extend to all civil servants, including those who have completed the Teacher Professional Program (PPG) in 2024 and are poised to receive their professional certification in 2025.

For non-civil servant teachers, an increase in the professional allowance is planned, with the monthly stipend rising from Rp1.5 million to Rp2 million. “This enhanced allowance will apply not only to those who obtain certification in 2025 but also to those who have already acquired their certifications in previous years,” he stated.

Previously, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani revealed that the total budget allocated for teacher welfare in 2025 has been increased by Rp16.7 trillion compared to the previous year. This hike encompasses the budget for both civil servant and non-civil servant teacher allowances, as outlined in the Appendix to Presidential Regulation Number 201 of 2024 concerning the Details of the State Budget Revenue and Expenditure (APBN) for the Fiscal Year 2025.

Based on the policy, an allocation of Rp70 trillion has been earmarked for regional civil servant allowance funds. Concurrently, a sum of Rp11.5 trillion has been allocated to finance the welfare of non-civil servant teachers.

According to government records, a total of 1,932,666 certified educators are eligible to receive this enhanced allowance in 2025, increased by 650 recipients compared to the previous year.

Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office, confirmed that this figure is expected to increase further in the coming years. “Currently, the total number of teachers in Indonesia stands at about 2.9 million,” he said during a press briefing held after a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, December 2, 2024.
