GreenTech targets Whundo copper extensions

  • A fixed loop magnetic survey is targeting extensions at the Whundo copper project in WA’s Pilbara region
  • The new interpretations may provide further options for drill targets
  • Results will be incorporated into an upcoming drill campaign beginning this month

Special report: GreenTech Metals is using modern high-powered equipment to penetrate greater depths of mineralisation at the Whundo project with a new fixed-loop magnetic survey.

Electromagnetic surveying uses a transmitting ‘loop’ to detect anomalies in the earth’s magnetic field associated with sulphide mineralisation.

To refine its knowledge of Whundo mineralisation, GreenTech Metals (ASX:GRE) has engaged Southern Geoscience Consultants to undertake the survey with sensors capable of penetrating to greater depths.

The purpose is to better define the down plunge and lateral extents of the known mineralised shoots and to potentially uncover additional targets for follow-up drilling.

An area of 1.1km2 will be covered, focusing on the northern down plunge extensions of the Whundo, Austin, Shelby and Yannery mineralised shoots.

Roughly 300 survey stations have been planned on a single transmitter (TX) loop using 50m spaced survey stations on 100m spaced survey lines for a total of 15-line km of coverage.

The survey partially overlaps with the historic FLEM survey which was undertaken 20 years ago.

Background of Whundo

GRE’s Whundo copper project comprises six known mineralised copper-zinc shoots, typically plunging to the north at 30 – 40 degrees.

These mineralised shoots, known as Whundo East, Whundo West, Austin, Shelby, Yannery and Ayshia, occur within a defined generally northeast trending zone over a strike of 2km.

A further combined 2km of this prospective zone remains open to both the west and the east of the known mineralisation within the tenement.

It is anticipated that these downhole electromagnetic surveys (DHEM) surveys will result in highlighting additional conductor targets which may also be tested as part of a 4000m planned drilling program.

Potential to add new targets in upcoming drilling

“Electromagnetic systems have improved significantly, and we anticipate that the new high-powered, deep-penetrating system will provide a clearer picture as to the extent of the Whundo mineralisation at depth as well as potentially identifying new targets,” GRE executive director Tom Reddicliffe said.

“With the survey results to be available in January, the company will have the option to add to its portfolio of drill targets and to reprioritise the upcoming drill program to include new targets if warranted.”

The survey will be completed in December with results available in January.
