Bandai Namco Holdings shares rose sharply after its unit said a new title for popular action role-playing game "Elden Ring" will be released next year.

Shares were recently 6.8% higher at Y3,569, equivalent to $23.38, on Friday in Tokyo after rising as much as 9.1% earlier.

Bandai Namco Entertainment said Friday that it would publish the new title, "Elden Ring Nightreign," in overseas markets in 2025, while developer FromSoftware will publish it in Japan.

FromSoftware is a unit of Japanese publishing house Kadokawa. Shares of Kadokawa were recently 3.6% higher.

Elden Ring, jointly developed by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware, has sold more than 28.6 million copies worldwide since its release in February 2022, the companies said.

Bandai Namco said the new title has been redesigned to offer a new game experience while inheriting some elements of the original such as enemies and arms.
