TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is planning to grant amnesty to certain inmates, though the exact number of inmates who will receive the amnesty remains undetermined.
“The figures are still being updated by the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections,” said Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas in a message to Tempo on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Supratman stated that the Ministry is currently assessing the number of inmates eligible for amnesty. Additionally, the names of those who may receive clemency are still under review.
“We only have estimates and criteria for the types of offenses at this stage,” he added.
Supratman revealed four categories of offenses eligible for amnesty:
On Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, Supratman stated at the State Palace that approximately 44,000 inmates meet the criteria for amnesty, based on data from the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.
Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto echoed Supratman’s remarks, noting that the exact number has yet to be finalized.
“We will release the numbers once finalized, as it requires approval from the House of Representatives (DPR),” Agus told Tempo on Saturday.
When asked about the proposed 44,000 inmates, Agus declined to confirm, citing the need for further consultation with the DPR before any decisions are made.
