TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) sentenced two private smelter bosses to eight years in prison. The two are Director of PT Sariwiguna Binasentosa (SBS) Robert Indarto and beneficial owner of PT Stanindo Inti Perkasa (SIP) Suwito Gunawan.
The judges stated that Suwito and Robert were proven guilty in the corruption case of tin governance in the mining business permit environment of PT Timah Tbk. The judges read out the verdicts for both of them in a trial held at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) on Monday, December 23, 2024.
The judges first read out the verdict for Suwito. Suwito was sentenced to prison and a fine. "Sentencing the Defendant Suwito to 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months," said the chairman of the panel of judges, Eko Ariyanto, reading out the verdict.
Suwito was also sentenced to pay compensation of up to Rp2 trillion. "Imposing a replacement fee of Rp2,200,704,628,766 subsidiary to 6 years in prison," said Eko.
Robert Indarto received a prison sentence and a fine of the same amount as Suwito. "Sentencing the defendant Robert Indarto to 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion subsidiary to 6 months," said the judge.
Robert is also required to pay a replacement fee of Rp1,920,273,791,788. If he cannot pay, the replacement fee will be replaced with a sentence of six years in prison.
In addition to the tin corruption case, the judge also stated that Robert and Suwito were proven to have committed the crime of money laundering (TPPU). Both were found to have violated Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code and Article 3 of Law No. 8 of 2010 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of TPPU in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 point 1 of the Criminal Code.
The eight-year prison sentence from the Jakarta Corruption Court for Robert Indarto and Suwito Gunawan is lighter than the prosecutor's demand. The public prosecutor from the Attorney General's Office previously demanded that Robert and Suwito be sentenced to 14 years in prison.
