Fitch Removes U.S. Steel From Rating Watch Positive on Uncertain Acquisition Outlook -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
2025/01/08

1242 ET - Fitch Ratings removed all of U.S. Steel's ratings from rating watch positive, a designation given to companies whose credit ratings have a likelihood of being upgraded. Fitch says U.S. Steel's removal from this list reflects increased uncertainty that its acquisition by Nippon Steel will succeed after President Biden rejected the deal, citing national-security concerns. Fitch says it will consider placing U.S. Steel back on rating watch positive if there is "significant progress" made in lawsuits brought by U. S. Steel and Nippon Steel challenging Biden's decision. Fitch affirms U.S. Steel at a BB rating and says its outlook is stable. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
