Rocket Lab Extends NASA Contract to Include New Rocket Model

Rocket Lab USA will provide rocket-launch services to NASA using a new rocket currently in development, adding to an existing contract the aerospace company has with the space agency.

The company said Thursday that its medium-lift reusable rocket, Neutron, will be able to provide both commercial and government customers with a launch service capable of deploying 13,000 kilograms to low-Earth orbit.

The Neutron rocket's launch site, on Wallops Island, Va., is expected to be completed in the coming months, Rocket said. Production, scaling and components testing is ongoing, with Neutron's debut launch scheduled for mid-2025.

NASA will use Rocket's Neutron rocket on future missions under the organizations' existing Venture-Class Acquisition of Dedicated and Rideshare contract. Under this contract, Rocket has previously completed missions for NASA using its small-orbital launch vehicle, Electron.
