Multiple insiders secured a larger position in Red Rock Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ:RRR) shares over the last 12 months. This is reassuring as this suggests that insiders have increased optimism about the company's prospects.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Chairman & CEO Frank Fertitta for US$5.3m worth of shares, at about US$54.49 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$45.09). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 332.00k shares worth US$17m. On the other hand they divested 85.86k shares, for US$5.0m. Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Red Rock Resorts insiders own about US$437m worth of shares (which is 9.3% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
The fact that there have been no Red Rock Resorts insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like Red Rock Resorts insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Our analysis shows 3 warning signs for Red Rock Resorts (1 shouldn't be ignored!) and we strongly recommend you look at them before investing.
