Energy stocks were leaning lower pre-bell Tuesday, with The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.2%.
The United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 0.6% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 3.7% lower.
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was 0.6% lower at $78.32 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil lost 0.7% to reach $80.48 per barrel, and natural gas futures were down 3.4% at $3.80 per 1 million British Thermal Units.
BP (BP) shares were more than 2% lower after the company said it expects "weaker" realized refining margins in Q4 to be between $100 million and $300 million and a higher "impact" from turnaround activity.
Plains All American Pipeline (PAA) priced a $1 billion underwritten public offering of 5.95% senior unsecured notes due 2035. Plains All American Pipeline shares were 0.3% higher premarket.
