Feb 5 (Reuters) - Aflac AFL.N reported a fourth-quarter profit on Wednesday that missed Wall Street estimates, hurt by weakness in the health and life insurer's Japan unit.
The company provides accident and pet insurance plans through its units in the U.S. and Japan. It also offers supplemental insurance for out-of-pocket expenses not typically covered by major medical insurers.
On an adjusted basis, Aflac earned $1.56 per share, compared with the average analyst estimate of $1.62, according to data compiled by LSEG.
The company's Japan unit reported adjusted sales of 359.9 billion yen ($2.36 billion), below estimates of $2.62 billion.
The insurer reported revenue of $5.4 billion, missing estimates of $4.16 billion.
