TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, said he resigned before being reshuffled by President Prabowo Subianto. He mentioned that his resignation letter had been submitted to the State Secretariat Ministry this afternoon, Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

"So, I just went to the State Secretariat to hand over my resignation letter as Mendiktisaintek," he said when met at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Jakarta.

As for the reason for his resignation, Satryo said that he had worked as hard as possible for the last 4 months. However, he felt his hard work did not meet the government's expectations. "Yes, I'd rather resign than be dismissed," he said.

He claimed to have prepared his resignation letter since last night. He handed it over to the Minister of State Secretariat to be conveyed to President Prabowo Subianto.

At the same time, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Brian Yuliarto as the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, February 19, 2025.

The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) professor replaced Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, who had only been in office for less than 5 months.

Before the inauguration, Prabowo requested Brian Yuliarto to be the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology in the Red and White Cabinet for the remaining term of the 2024-2029 period. Then, Brian took the oath according to his religion.

"Deciding, establishing, and appointing Professor (Brian Yuliarto) as the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology in the Red and White Cabinet for the remaining term of the 2024-2029 period," said Prabowo, February 19, 2025.

Almost all Red and White Cabinet members were present at this inauguration. Those in attendance were State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi; Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti; Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan; Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, and Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra; Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency Nusron Wahid; and Deputy Minister of Mendiktisaintek Stella Christie. However, Satryo Soemantri did not attend the event.
