Transocean has tapped its president and chief operating officer, Keelan Adamson, to succeed Jeremy Thigpen as chief executive of the provider of offshore contract-drilling services.

Transocean on Tuesday said Adamson will become president and CEO following a transition period that is expected to conclude during the second quarter.

The Switzerland-based company said Thigpen, who has been at the helm since 2015, will become executive chairman, while its current chairman, Chad Deaton, will transition to lead independent director, subject to shareholder approval at this year's annual general meeting.

Transocean said Adamson, who joined the company in 1995 and has been in his current post since February 2022, will also join the board.
