Andersons Forecasts Increased Corn Acreage -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
02-20

1343 ET - U.S. farmers are expected to plant more acres of corn in 2025, says agricultural supplier Andersons Inc. in its fourth quarter 2024 earnings report. "With a lower-than-expected corn carryout at the end of the year, an inverse has returned to the corn markets, which could result in an increase in corn acres planted and increased volatility in 2025," the firm says in its earnings release. Farmers planted 90.6 million acres of corn in 2024, the USDA reported in its February WASDE report. Andersons CEO Bill Krueger said that the company benefited from the availability and lower price of corn last year. "Trade had an excellent fourth quarter, with an early harvest, where we were able to accumulate higher-than-normal quality grain at good basis values," he says. (kirk.maltais@wsj.com)
