Silicon Laboratories said Wednesday it received a $23 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund to support a new research and development laboratory in Austin.
The fund was established under the Texas CHIPS Act, which was signed into law in June of 2023. The act established the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium, an advisory panel to the governor and lawmakers, and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund, which provides matching funds and grants for semiconductor innovation.
The investment will allow Silicon Labs to accelerate wireless chip design, particularly around the build-out and design of its Series 3 technology, the company said.
Silicon Labs offers hardware and software to support wireless connectivity for the Internet of Things.
