CBOT soybeans tick down on tariff concerns

CHICAGO, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures closed lower on Thursday, pressured by concerns about the impact of U.S. tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada and China, according to analysts.

  • CBOT May soybeans SK25 settled down 4 cents at $10.37-1/4 per bushel.

  • CBOT May soymeal SMK25 ended down $2.30 at $300.20 per short ton while May soyoil BOK25 fell 0.24 cent to finish at 45.35 cents per pound.

  • Confusion swirled around the possible impacts of new U.S. tariffs, which U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday would be implemented on March 4 after floating a delay until April the previous day.

  • Investors fear tariffs could lead to retaliation against U.S. agricultural exports by impacted countries, such as major soybean importer China.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture projected U.S. farmers will plant more acres of corn and less of soybeans in 2025 than they did a year earlier at its Outlook Forum on Thursday.
