Truist Financial Insider Ups Holding During Year

Simply Wall St.

From what we can see, insiders were net buyers in Truist Financial Corporation's (NYSE:TFC ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders acquired the stock in greater numbers than they sold it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Truist Financial

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Executive Chairman & CEO William Rogers for US$2.5m worth of shares, at about US$43.96 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$45.15. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. The good news for Truist Financial share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. William Rogers was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

William Rogers bought 91.48k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$45.68. Truist Financial Insiders Are Selling The Stock

The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Truist Financial shares. Specifically, Independent Director K. Boyer ditched US$229k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.

Does Truist Financial Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Truist Financial insiders own about US$100m worth of shares. That equates to 0.2% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Truist Financial Insiders?

An insider sold Truist Financial shares recently, but they didn't buy any. In contrast, they appear keener if you look at the last twelve months. And insiders do own shares. So we're not overly bothered by recent selling. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
