Communications services shares finished lower on a down day across the broad indexes.
Telecoms and media both dropped, with declines for firms such as AT&T, Verizon, Paramount, Comcast, and News Corp., the parent company of Dow Jones Newswires.
Internet companies were mixed. Netflix, Meta and Match group logged gains, while Alphabet retreated.
