Some Canadian Lumber Producers Could Fare Worse on Tariffs -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
03-04

1404 ET - The Canadian lumber producers have done what they can to protect themselves from potential U.S. tariffs and other trade measures, but not all companies are equally protected. Canadian lumber producers face three distinct U.S. trade hurdles including potential blanket tariffs Canadian imports, likely increases to existing anti-dumping duties and incremental duties envisioned with the executive orders over the weekend. In a TD Cowen report, Sean Stewart says "the Canadian lumber industry has taken strides to reduce exposure to U.S. protectionist measures, but our coverage set is sensitive to additional layers of duties and tariffs." Of the Canadian producers, he thinks the most exposed are Western Forest Products, Interfor, Canfor, and West Fraser Timber, in that order. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
