Nickel Industries (ASX:NIC) confirmed that if the proposed increase in royalties for mining firms in Indonesia is legislated into law, the royalties paid by the firm would increase by around $8 million, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.
The estimate is based on the Hengjaya nickel mine's sales revenue of $205 million in 2024. The impact for the firm would only be on nickel ore sales, the filing added.
The Indonesian government announced a public consultation period for potential royalty increases across a number of commodities, including nickel.
The firm is currently subject to a 10% royalty on its nickel ore sales. The proposal would increase the royalties to between 14% to 19%, depending on the prevailing nickel price at the time.
Nickel Industries' shares rose past 3% in early trading on Wednesday.
