Investing in Interlink Electronics (NASDAQ:LINK) five years ago would have delivered you a 130% gain

While Interlink Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:LINK) shareholders are probably generally happy, the stock hasn't had particularly good run recently, with the share price falling 15% in the last quarter. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last five years have been very strong. It's fair to say most would be happy with 130% the gain in that time. Generally speaking the long term returns will give you a better idea of business quality than short periods can. Ultimately business performance will determine whether the stock price continues the positive long term trend.

Now it's worth having a look at the company's fundamentals too, because that will help us determine if the long term shareholder return has matched the performance of the underlying business.

Because Interlink Electronics made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

In the last 5 years Interlink Electronics saw its revenue grow at 15% per year. That's well above most pre-profit companies. Meanwhile, its share price performance certainly reflects the strong growth, given the share price grew at 18% per year, compound, during the period. This suggests the market has well and truly recognized the progress the business has made. Interlink Electronics seems like a high growth stock - so growth investors might want to add it to their watchlist.

A Different Perspective

We regret to report that Interlink Electronics shareholders are down 15% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 2.4%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 18% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Interlink Electronics better, we need to consider many other factors. Even so, be aware that Interlink Electronics is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those is potentially serious...
