Mazda Holds Prices Firm Despite $100 Million Tariff Hit -- WSJ

Mazda for now will absorb about $100 million in tariff-related costs this month without resorting to price increases, the Japanese automaker told its U.S. dealers. In an email to dealers Wednesday, viewed by the Journal, Mazda said that it wouldn't raise its sticker prices or tack on import fees to any vehicles that are on dealership lots or that come into the country before May 1.

A 25% tariff on vehicle imports remains in place, even after the Trump administration on Wednesday announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs. Most of Mazda's U.S.-sold vehicles are imported from Japan and Mexico, while roughly 20% are built at an Alabama plant jointly owned with Toyota Motor. In a statement, the company said the tariffs "will have a significant negative impact" on the industry and its business, and that it is working to reduce costs elsewhere.
