Omnibridge Holdings Limited (HKG:8462) Might Not Be As Mispriced As It Looks After Plunging 27%

Omnibridge Holdings Limited (HKG:8462) shares have retraced a considerable 27% in the last month, reversing a fair amount of their solid recent performance. To make matters worse, the recent drop has wiped out a year's worth of gains with the share price now back where it started a year ago.

In spite of the heavy fall in price, Omnibridge Holdings' price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 2.5x might still make it look like a strong buy right now compared to the market in Hong Kong, where around half of the companies have P/E ratios above 11x and even P/E's above 21x are quite common. However, the P/E might be quite low for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit.

Omnibridge Holdings certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing earnings at a really rapid pace. One possibility is that the P/E is low because investors think this strong earnings growth might actually underperform the broader market in the near future. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Does Growth Match The Low P/E?

In order to justify its P/E ratio, Omnibridge Holdings would need to produce anemic growth that's substantially trailing the market.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew earnings per share by an impressive 78% last year. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow EPS by 121% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the earnings growth recently has been superb for the company.

This is in contrast to the rest of the market, which is expected to grow by 17% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Omnibridge Holdings' P/E sits below the majority of other companies. It looks like most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.

The Final Word

Omnibridge Holdings' P/E looks about as weak as its stock price lately. Using the price-to-earnings ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

Our examination of Omnibridge Holdings revealed its three-year earnings trends aren't contributing to its P/E anywhere near as much as we would have predicted, given they look better than current market expectations. When we see strong earnings with faster-than-market growth, we assume potential risks are what might be placing significant pressure on the P/E ratio. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term earnings trends continue, but investors seem to think future earnings could see a lot of volatility.

We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 3 warning signs for Omnibridge Holdings (2 make us uncomfortable!) that you need to be mindful of.
