Top Cryptocurrencies Fall; Bitcoin Drops Below $80,000

Major digital assets fell late Thursday afternoon with Bitcoin (BTC-USD) dropping below $80,000.

The CoinDesk Market Index, which tracks dozens of digital assets including Bitcoin, shed 3.8% in the past 24 hours. US equity indexes fell with the Nasdaq 100 down 4.1%, the S&P 500 falling 3.4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average losing 2.5%.

Bitcoin dropped 3.5% at $79,507, according to CoinMarketCap data. The most popular cryptocurrency's 24-hour trading volume fell 30.9% to $52.83 billion.

Ethereum (ETH-USD), the second-largest digital asset by market value, slumped 7.6% to $1,518.

XRP (XRP-USD) lost 4.1%, BNB (BNB-USD) fell 0.9%, and Solana (SOL-USD) declined 6.4%.

Dogecoin (DOGE-USD) dropped 4.1%, while Cardano (ADA-USD) fell 5.6%.

The US 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.400% at 3 p.m. ET Thursday, rising from 4.396% Wednesday, while the five-year yield fell to 4.038% from 4.091%.

The total market value of the cryptocurrency industry decreased 3.5% in the past 24 hours to $2.53 trillion with trading volume dropping 31% to $117.37 billion.
