Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google said Thursday it is collaborating with grid operator PJM Interconnection and Alphabet-backed Tapestry to apply artificial intelligence-driven data capabilities to the US electricity system.

Under the collaboration, Tapestry, which will use Google Cloud and Google DeepMind, will develop AI-driven technology that will manage and optimize interconnecting power generation to the PJM electric grid across 13 states and the District of Columbia.

Google said the technology will help PJM to connect energy sources to its grid faster.
