O-I Glass is mulling a streamlining of its French operations, which have been hurt by a slowdown in the wine market, overcapacity and strong competition.
O-I Glass on Tuesday said it is considering actions that could result in a net loss of about 320 jobs in France, adding that positions has initiated an information-and-consultation process with its European and French employee representatives.
The Perrysburg, Ohio, maker of glass bottles and jars said it is focusing on possible operational adjustments at its plants in Gironcourt, Puy-Guillaume, and Reims; the potential cessation of production of one furnace at its plant in Vayres; the potential closure of its Vergeze plant; and the potential resizing of administrative functions at its French headquarters.
O-I Glass, which has about 21,000 employees worldwide, said it is also considering a multi-million-euro investment in its French plants, and that the country remains a strategic market.
