Chinese Shares End Mixed as Investors Hope for U.S.-China Trade Deal -- Market Talk

0725 GMT - Chinese shares ended mixed as investors hope to see a trade deal between the U.S. and China. President Trump said he is in contact with the "highest levels" of the Chinese government on a potential deal to reduce tariffs, adding that he might not want higher tariffs as "people aren't going to buy" products in the U.S. Property stocks rose broadly, with China Vanke up 1.5% and Hangzhou Binjiang Real Estate Group rising 3.8%. Consumer stocks fell, with Yonghui Superstores dropping 4.65% and Shanghai Jinjiang International Hotels down 4.4%. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended 0.1% lower at 3276.73, the Shenzhen Composite Index was flat and the ChiNext Price Index rose 0.3%. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
