Santos’ flagship $5.8 billion Barossa gas project in the Timor Sea has been granted its last major regulatory approval, clearing the way for the major offshore field to finally begin full production within months.
The Barossa project has been a target for environmental groups because of its high carbon footprint. The Environmental Defenders Office launched a controversial and ultimately unsuccessful court action to have regulatory approvals for the development ruled void.
