The US Department of Justice (DOJ) claimed Google is paying Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) "enormous" monthly sums to pre-install its Gemini AI on Galaxy devices, potentially reinforcing "monopolistic practices in the internet search," Pulse News reported Tuesday.

The claim was made on Monday, during the US DOJ's federal antitrust trial against Google, according to the report.

In court testimony, Google executive Peter Fitzgerald confirmed that the deal began in January and may extend to 2028, with payments tied to ad revenue from Gemini. The revelation adds to ongoing antitrust scrutiny, as Google has previously paid Samsung $8 billion for the default placement of its search engine and Play Store, the report said.

Shares of Samsung Electronics rose 1% in recent trade on Wednesday.
