China's wind and solar power capacity topped fossil fuel-based capacity for the first time, hitting 1,482 gigawatts by March's end, Reuters reported April 25.

While China races ahead on renewables, hitting its 2030 target six years early, coal-fired projects continue to expand with the addition of 99.5 gigawatts in 2024, according to the report.

Wind and solar power now account for more than half of installed capacity in China but just 22.5% of delivered power, Reuters wrote.
