Amazon's (AMZN) Project Kuiper late Monday launched and deployed its first batch of 27 satellites into low orbit, launch partner United Launch Alliance said.

Project Kuiper aims to create a broadband network to rival SpaceX's Starlink constellation, news outlets reported.

The rocket lifted off from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, said ULA, a joint venture of Boeing (BA) and Lockheed Martin (LMT).

Project Kuiper will use ULA's Vulcan rocket for 38 launches to deploy more than half of the 3,200 satellites in its planned constellation, ULA said.
