Fortescue (ASX:FMG) said it made total iron ore shipments of 46.1 million tonnes during the third fiscal quarter, rising 6% from the year-ago quarter's iron ore shipments of 43.3 million tonnes, according to a Tuesday Australian bourse filing.
Ore shipments in the year-ago quarter were impacted by ore car derailments, which were not encountered during the reported quarter.
Total ore mined during the period clocked in at 55.5 million tonnes during the March quarter, 19% higher than the prior-year period, with an increase in volumes across both the Hematite operations and the Iron Bridge project in Western Australia.
The firm is continuing exploration activities at the Belinga iron ore project in Gabon, and exploration has restarted in the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
Its full-year guidance is unchanged for iron ore shipments of 190 million tonnes to 200 million tonnes, and the firm remains on track to deliver it, per the filing.
Its shares rose 5% in recent trading on Tuesday.
