April 28 - Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has increased vehicle prices in Canada as it moves to sell off existing stock imported before new tariffs on U.S. vehicles were introduced, according to a Monday update on its Canadian website.
A banner on Tesla's Canadian site urges shoppers to "explore pre-tariff priced inventory while supplies last." The move follows Canada's retaliation against U.S. tariffs, announcing duties of up to 25% on American-made cars, trucks, and parts.
Tesla's price adjustments are steep. A long-range Model 3 with all-wheel drive now costs C$79,990 (US$57,700), compared to C$69,000 for pre-tariff inventory, a jump of more than C$10,000. Automotive site Drive Tesla Canada reported that new orders, including for the Cybertruck, are as much as 22% pricier after President Trump's April 2 tariff announcement.
The EV maker faces growing consumer pushback in Canada, fueled by CEO Elon Musk's controversial comments suggesting Canada "is not a real country." Ironically, Musk holds Canadian citizenship.
Shares of Tesla dropped about 3% in Monday trading
