BOE Could Be More Proactive in Cutting Interest Rates -- Market Talk

1509 GMT - The Bank of England could become more proactive in cutting interest rates due to concerns about the impact of U.S. tariffs on the U.K. economy, Oxford Economics economist Edward Allenby says in a note. The BOE is widely expected to cut interest rates to 4.25% at its next announcement due on May 8. "With U.S. trade policy presenting a new demand shock, there have been early signs that the monetary policy committee is willing to adopt a more proactive approach to loosening policy," Allenby says. Markets price in 98 basis points of BOE rate cuts by the end of 2025, LSEG data show. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
