US FCC to Vote on Rule Restricting Chinese Lab Testing

The US Federal Communications Commission is set to vote on a rule that would restrict laboratories from testing equipment in the US if they are owned by entities that pose national security risks, including those belonging to China, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said in a Wednesday statement.

Carr said the current regulations have certain loopholes because Huawei, among those slapped with restrictions in 2022, is still allowed to operate its testing lab in the US until a year earlier.

New equipment from Huawei, as well as from ZTE (HKG:0763, SHE:000063), were included in the FCC's "covered list" in 2022.

The voting will be held on May 22, according to a Reuters report.
