The Australian Index of Commodity Prices fell 1.2% in April when measured in special drawing rights terms on a monthly average basis, after a 3.6% decrease in March, the Reserve Bank of Australia reported Thursday.
The rural subindex increased in the month, while the non-rural and base metals subindices both decreased, the report said.
In Australian dollar terms, the index rose by 0.4% in the month and fell by 0.7% over the past year, the central bank added.
The index fell 6.1% in special drawing rights terms compared with the past year on the back of lower iron ore and coking coal prices.
Using spot prices for the bulk commodities index, the index fell by 0.8% in special drawing rights terms in April and by 6.1% over the past year, per the report.
