TikTok plans to spend 1 billion euros to build its first data center in Finland, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing a spokesperson for the Chinese short video platform.
The spokesperson did not give further details regarding the plan but only confirmed the information revealed by two sources familiar with the matter, the report said.
The data center is part of a data security regime the app has imposed due to pressure from governments across the Atlantic following privacy concerns, Reuters said.
TikTok's first data center in Norway has gone online in April after construction started in 2023, the report said.
Tech companies have favored setting data centers in Nordic countries due to their climate and their cheap, sustainable electricity, the report said.
