Western Digital (WDC) reported double-digit growth in fiscal third-quarter revenue, while the data storage products maker outlined an above-consensus guidance for the final three months of the year.

Revenue for the quarter ended March 28 jumped 31% year on year to $2.29 billion, though it missed the FactSet-polled consensus of $2.32 billion. The company posted non-GAAP earnings of $1.36 per share, which surpassed analysts' $1.11 estimate. Western Digital didn't provide a year-on-year comparison for adjusted EPS.

The company's stock was up 5.3% intraday Wednesday.

"Western Digital executed well in its fiscal third quarter achieving revenue at the high end of our guidance range and gross margin over 40%," Chief Executive Irving Tan said in a statement. "Even in a world marked by geopolitical uncertainty and shifting tariff dynamics, one thing remains constant: the exponential growth of data."

For the fourth quarter, the company expects non-GAAP EPS of $1.45, plus or minus $0.20. Revenue is projected at $2.45 billion, plus or minus $150 million. Analysts are looking for non-GAAP EPS of $1.19 and revenue of $2.37 billion.

For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024, the company reported non-GAAP EPS of $1.44 and revenue of $3.76 billion.

"There are areas such as in the enterprise and in certain parts of our distribution and retail business where there could be more uncertainty with respect to demand, driven largely by the current tariff environment," Chief Executive Irving Tan said at an earnings call, according to a FactSet transcript. "Taking these factors into account and looking ahead into the fiscal fourth quarter, we expect sequential revenue growth driven by sustained strength in data center demand."

Cloud revenue in the third quarter grew 38% year on year to $2.01 billion, accounting for 87% of total revenue, with bit shipments up 32%. Client revenue was down 2% at $137 million due to lower unit shipments. Revenue in the consumer segment fell 4% to $150 million mainly due to pricing, the company said.
