Microsoft (MSFT, Financials) is considering adding Elon Musk's Grok chatbot to its Azure AI Foundry, according to The Verge. The move could stir tension with OpenAI, Microsoft's top AI partnerand a company now locked in a legal battle with Musk.

Grok is built by xAI, one of Musk's newer ventures alongside Tesla, SpaceX, and X. Hosting it would expand Microsoft's AI lineup for developers, part of CEO Satya Nadella's push to make Azure a home for all major modelsnot just OpenAI's.

But timing is tricky. Musk co-founded OpenAI a decade ago and is now suing it, claiming it betrayed its nonprofit mission. OpenAI has countersued, accusing him of trying to disrupt its business.

Microsoft hasn't said anything publicly. It's already added other OpenAI rivals to Foundry, including DeepSeek's R1. Letting Grok in would be the boldest step yetand could test how long Microsoft can walk this line.
