Stock Futures Fall Ahead of Fed Decision -- Barrons.com

Dow Jones
05-05

By Liz Moyer

Stock futures were falling Sunday evening as investors braced for this week's interest rate decision by the Federal Reserve after driving stocks higher for more than a week.

At 6:14 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 0.2%, S&P 500 futures were down 0.3%, and Nasdaq Composite futures fell 0.2%.

Stocks have been rebounding on hopes for major trade deals after the Trump administration imposed broad tariffs on imported goods and then postponed some of them to negotiate bilateral deals.

Stocks have risen for two consecutive weeks, with the Dow and S&P 500 each adding 3.1% for the week ending Friday, while Nasdaq added 3.8% for the week.

On Monday morning, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will speak at the Milken Institute's Global Conference 2025 and Tuesday he is scheduled to testify in the House. This week the Treasury is expected to release the date on which the government reaches its debt ceiling.
