SK Telecom (KRX:017670) will halt new subscriber sign-ups at 2,600 T World stores from Monday, May 5, across South Korea to prioritize SIM card replacements amid supply shortages, the telecommunications firm said Friday.
Automatic enrollment in the SIM Protection Service began May 2, targeting 8.5 million users, with priority for seniors and disabled customers. SKT also plans to secure 10 million SIM cards by June and expand airport support during the travel season, the release said.
The company also plans to launch SIM Protection Service 2.0 for roaming users from May 14. The company aims to shield users from the potential misuse of illegally cloned SIM cards, it said.
