Off-Price Retailers Hungry for Inventory Could Boost Nike -- Market Talk

0942 ET - Nike is getting a boost from off-price retailers as it faces a litany of tariff-related challenges. TJMaxx and other such retailers are looking to buy more goods and grow their inventories to get ahead of expected price increases from tariffs, Williams Trading analyst Sam Poser says. The growing appetite from off-price retailers could help Nike offload its current "non-compelling, unproductive inventory" more quickly than it expects, Poser says. Nike makes many of its shoes in China and Vietnam where tariffs are higher or set to rise, threatening to boost manufacturing costs and sticker prices. "4Q25 revenue may come in better than expected, perhaps at the expense of margins due to the expected increased demand from off-price retailers," Poser says. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
