Analysts Expect 101 Billion-Cubic-Foot Increase in U.S. Natural Gas Storage

U.S. natural gas inventories likely rose by more than average last week, increasing the modest storage surplus amid low seasonal demand, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of analysts.

Natural gas in underground storage is expected to have increased by 101 billion cubic feet to 2,142 Bcf in the week ended May 2, according to the average estimate of 11 analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from an injection of 95 Bcf to an injection of 109 Bcf.

The expected storage build is larger than the five-year average for the week of 79 Bcf, and would increase the surplus to 27 Bcf from 5 Bcf the week before. It would still leave inventories 415 Bcf below their year-earlier level.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to report natural gas storage on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
