1313 GMT - The U.S. and Lockheed Martin can't, and won't, decouple from Europe, the U.S. defense contractor's Vice President for International Business, Raymond Piselli, says. President Trump's tariffs on goods imported from the European Union are "a shock to the system" but "absolutely necessary" for Europe to realize that the peace dividend was over and that it needed to increase spending on defense, Piselli tells a defense industry event in Madrid. The situation is "very fluid" when it comes to tariffs and Lockheed Martin is monitoring every twist and turn, he says. Trump has already got a lot of what he wants, Piselli says. One of Trump's demands was that European allies boost military spending steeply. The U.S. will "find its level ground, especially with Europe," he adds. (cristina.gallardo@wsj.com)
