Singapore shares erased yesterday's losses to end the week in green, mirroring a broader upbeat trend across Asian markets, as investors are hopeful that Washington will soon reach a trade deal with China.
The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 3,854.72 and 3,879.56 throughout the day. It ended the session at 3,876.16, up 27.94 points or 0.73% compared to Thursday's close.
In company news, shares of ST Engineering (SGX:S63) were up nearly 2% at the close, as the company's revenue jumped 4% to SG$446 million during the first quarter of the year from SG$429 million a year earlier.
Sembcorp Industries (SGX:U96) was up over 1% after the company and Aster Chemicals and Energy signed a new energy and utilities collaboration worth SG$650 million.
Meanwhile, shares of Frasers Property (SGX:TQ5) edged up by nearly 1%, as the developer's attributable profit to owners of the company jumped 148% for six months ended March 31 to SG$142.2 million, from SG$57.4 million a year earlier.
