The American Automotive Policy Council, which represents Ford (F), Stellantis (STLA), and General Motors (GM), has expressed disappointment over the US government's trade agreement with the UK in a late Thursday statement, claiming the deal "hurts American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers."

"Under this deal, it will now be cheaper to import a UK vehicle with very little US content than a USMCA compliant vehicle from Mexico or Canada that is half American parts," the trade group said.

According to Reuters, the deal gives UK automakers a quota of 100,000 cars per year they can export to the US at a 10% tariff rate, compared with the 25% tariff for Canada and Mexico.

The White House did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
