Sony Group Corp. has indicated that it will respond to the high tariffs imposed by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump by passing the increased costs on to consumers in the form of price increases and diversifying its production sites.

At an earnings briefing on Wednesday, Chief Financial Officer Lin Tao explained that the company has estimated the U.S. tariff measures will reduce its operating income by 100 billion yen. She said that the impact of the tariffs will be roughly evenly split among the company's game business, electronics business and semiconductor business. "We believe that we can limit the impact to around 100 billion yen by implementing various measures, such as raising prices in line with market trends and diversifying production sites," she said.

When asked about the economic outlook, President and CEO Hiroki Totoki said, "There are no specific changes occurring at the moment, but there is a time lag for shifts in economic sentiment. I believe employment is the key indicator of where we're headed, and I am monitoring the employment situation in the United States."

Regarding Sony's decision to spin off its financial subsidiary, Totoki said, "It's important to consider how the individual businesses and the group as a whole can grow, so we chose to solve this by spinning off our financial subsidiary. There are no current plans for other businesses, but we will consider it as an option if necessary."
