Home Sales Grew in April From March, But Down From Last Year -- Market Talk

1802 ET - April home sales grew 11.3% over March, but are down 1.4% year over year, RE/MAX says. The real estate company said the month-over-month increase continued a trend since January for the 51 metro areas it surveys. New listing in April grew 6.2% over March, and were up 7.5% year over year, the company said. RE/MAX also said April's median sale price of $440,000 was 1.2% higher than March and 2.3% higher than a year ago. RE/MAX Holdings CEO Erik Carlson said "April's housing market showed some encouraging growth, with home sales increasing and days on market decreasing compared to March." Carlson also said "we still need to see more buyers entering the market." (stephen.nakrosis@wsj.com)
