Japanese heavy industries company IHI (TYO:7013) and SAR satellite technology leader ICEYE have agreed to collaborate on developing a constellation of up to 24 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites.

This initiative aims to provide Earth-observation data for military, civilian, and commercial applications, according to its statement on Thursday.

A memorandum of understanding was signed at Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) Japan, with plans to establish a satellite manufacturing facility in Japan for domestic satellite operations.
