Bedshed Franchising, a unit of Joyce Ltd (ASX:JYC), paid AU$39,600 in penalties after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued it with two infringement notices for allegedly making false or misleading representations to consumers, according to a Wednesday statement by the regulator.

ACCC alleged that the firm's advertisements suggested that some of its mattresses, furniture, and bedding accessories had been evaluated or approved by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The scheme does not approve any specific goods or services, ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said.

The Australian government established a taskforce, consisting of the ACCC, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and the National Disability Insurance Agency, in December 2023 to address concerns that NDIS participants were being charged more for goods and services than other consumers, and to address potential breaches of consumer law.
